Kadayawan Davao!

We have just celebrated the annual festival of Davao City in Philippines called, Kadayawan Festival last weekend. It is a celebration that interfaces the three aspects: tribal industrial, arts and entertainment. And it is considered as one of the biggest festivals in the Mindanao Region. Why is it called Kadayawan? Because it derives from the friendly and common greeting of Davaoenos or Dabawenyos , Madayaw! “Dayaw” means valuable or good or simply beautiful. Our theme for this year is: “Musanay Lumadnong Kagikan, Yutang Kabilin Panalipdan!” (“Flourishing Indigenous Heritage, Protecting Ancestral Nations”)

The most interesting event of this festival is the street dance competition or known as the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan and the colorful grand floral float parade. One of the most awaited event is the mall tour of some celebrities like Kim Chu, Gerald Anderson, Angelica Panginiban and so much more. There’s a lot of surprises as well prepared for the people especially the foreign visitors for them to experience and enjoy the celebration. Shoppers were also glad to know the big discounts offered in shopping malls around the city. There’ s a month long fever as well in durian season.

This year’s Kadayawan festival is rooted in every Dabawenyos’ hearts.
